Stais Family

The Stais family is one of the oldest aristocratic families of Kythira, with Byzantine origins. Their presence on the island dates back to early times and is mentioned in the "Council of the Nobles of Tsirigo", a Venetian document from 1573, where they hold the fourth position among the island’s noble families.
Valerios Stais
The most prominent historical figure associated with Margarita Hotel is undoubtedly Valerios Stais. Born in 1857 in the very house that now houses the hotel, he began his studies in medicine in Athens and Bonn, continuing the family tradition.
